Many people who identify as transgender or transsexual prefer pronouns specific to the gender with which they identify, rather than pronouns that reflect their biological sex. For example, a female-bodied person who identifies as a man may prefer masculine pronouns (he/him/his).
Some trans people prefer to use pronouns that are not specific to gender. Some people prefer "ze" (pronounced zee) to "he" or "she," and would rather use hir and hirs (pronounced here/heres) than him/his or her/hers.
