Transsexual

Transsexual people are those who identify with the sex different from the one they were assigned at birth. They believe their brains and their bodies don't match. Someone who is transsexual often, but not always, wants to "pass" as the gender they identify with--that is, they want to permanently live in everyday society as a member of that gender. Many, but not all, transsexual people will undergo sex reassignment therapy, including hormone therapy and surgery, to physically change their bodies and they way they present themselves to society. Whether a transsexual person undergoes sex reassignment therapy or not, the period in which they change and re-establish their gender in the world is called transition.
