Intersex
Intersex describes people who are born neither male nor female. They can have physical characteristics of both males and females, or ambiguous genitalia, where the sex organs are more like a combination of male and female. (For example, the clitoris is unusually large, or the penis is unusually small, so that it is not entirely clear what sex a person is.) One of the most common intersex condition is Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. When an intersex child is born, they may undergo surgery so that their genitals are more like those of "normal" males and females. The decision about surgery at birth is up to the child's parents and doctor.
